When parts for your vintage or classic car are unobtainable we are often able to manufacture one - off components to the correct design and specification. Sometimes parts which are badly worn or damaged can be copied, or else missing parts can be designed from scratch.

Timing Sprocket New Timing Wheels These are timing sprockets for a 1929 Delage DM seen here during and after manufacture. The blank sprockets were first machined on a lathe from steel billets before the holes in the camshaft wheel were produced using a vertical milling machine. The keyways were then made and the sprocket teeth cut. In the case of the crankshaft and camshaft wheels the relationship of keyway and sprocket teeth is critical.

Bearing Shell This is a new bearing shell which we manufactured for a Hupmobile Model R. This type of thick wall bronze - backed shell is first roughed out as a round bush from suitable material. We always use PB1 Phosphor Bronze for such applications. The oversized bush is then split longitudinally on a horizontal milling machine before the two halves are held together for further machining. Next the bore of the bush which is now oval in shape is machined to the correct diameter. The bush is mounted on a mandrel in order to machine the external diameter and to produce flanges and thrust faces as necessary. When completed the bush is tinned internally and lined with whitemetal before cleaning of butt faces and line boring. We always finish this type of bearing by blueing and hand scraping.

These gears from a "crash" gearbox were made in EN39 steel. The originals were made in EN36 - a popular choice even today for syncromesh boxes. Having been in service for some years now they are proving more durable (not to mention quieter) than the originals.

We are able to undertake the design and manufacture of wide variety of new components in various materials including ferrous and non - ferrous metals, stainless steel, plastics, fibrous materials and wood.
